The clicking of shoes echoed throughout the golden-painted hallway. The balcony doors opened wide, allowing the morning sunlight to flood in, shimmering against the golden portraits of my ancestors. Chandeliers hung on the ceilings, which were getting touched by the light, making a spectrum of colors glitter and flash in each angle.
The floor was marble with a lengthy, red carpet spreading across the marble floors in every path; left, right, and straight. This very much reminded me of the red sea, in a way. It was as if I was walking down along the path of annihilation that my family so partook in. Well, more like making others partake in it.
Peering over my shoulder, I observed the gather of maids accompanying me with downcast eyes, their hands respectively in front of their thighs and on their proper, classical maid uniforms. Yesterday, as I recall, the club that I'm presently enrolled inโthe Host Clubโrecently obtained a manager, much to my apprehension.
Last night I remember staying up late as I thought about the issue. How do I get rid of her? I understand that someone helping Kyoya-sempai in handling the rather costly Host Club is a splendid idea, no inconvenience in it. Though not like this; not as a fangirl constantly stalks me.
Renge was a problem; this was something that I felt heavily in my gut, yelling at me to recognize and observe such a fact. But why was she a problem? What has she done to make me feel so on edge? To this question, I had no answer. Clutching the small piece of paper in my hand, I exhaled.
'Why must everything be a riddle with no answers?'
Seeing as the golden-glazed burgundy doors appeared in front of me, I straightened my suit and hardened my eyes; something that my mother would continually chide me to do. Tilting my head forward as the two doormen bowed in respect, I looked back forward.
Signaling for the other maids to walk away, they bowed and did as ordered. Walking inside the meeting room, I smiled at the hostile parents of both Toru's and Bunny-kun's.
"Morning, Mr. and Mrs. SuzushimaโMr. Haninozuka." Bowing my head in respect, I kept the gracious smile on my face as I sat down on the chief chair of the lengthy table with the service of a butler.
"Morning, (L/n)-Sama." Mr. Suzushima responded, though everyone understood that his tone didn't aspire for it to sound civil. Smiling more, I didn't delay for the others to voice their courtesy because; let's face itโthe other two would rather have enjoyed seeing my guts being taken out.
Clearing my throat, I looked at them all with a rigid expression, earnestness clear in my eyes. "I think we all know why we're here today, do we?" I asked them, setting my hands on the table as I curled them together. Nodding their heads, the three angered parents said no more. Which was wise in their parts.
I chuckled, this irking the others in the room. "Mr. and Mrs. Suzushimaโregarding your son-"
"Where is my son you bastard!" Striking her dainty hands on the table, Mrs. Suzushima stood up from the seat scrapping the floor creating a loud noise. Not flinching from her abrupt action, I remained observing as her husband struggled to steady her down and make her take a seat, on which she did; not before glaring at me as if I murdered her son.
"Mrs. Suzushima, I have only one clue where your son could be as we speak, and why he left. I hope you can find it in your heart to not fault me for your son's actions." Motioning for the butler that held an envelope in both hands, the aged sir walked smoothly towards the two parents and handed them the envelope.
Looking down at it in interest, Mrs. Suzushima glared back up at me, a firm frown on her anxious face. "What is this?" The lady inquired, to which I only waved my hand in a circular motion. "The clue to where your son could be, Mr. and Mrs. Suzushima." Once receiving my answer, both of them looked hopefully at the envelope as the mother seized it and slit it open, urgently plucking out the paper and examined its texts.
To which her face was full of hope, it was now full of misery and defeat. Passing it deliberately to her husband, he, too, studied the letter, and as soon as he did so did his expression fell as he gawked emptily at the glazed wooden table.
A few minutes played in sheer silence before Mr. Suzushima spoke upโrather cautiously, might I add.
"Forgive me and my wife... for any burdens we and our son have done. We accept the declaration of calling off the engagement and will do everything in our will capacity to pay you for the inconvenience." Mr. Suzushima declared, getting up along with his dread-struck wife. Looking over at me, he askedโ
"I count on that this will not influence our political tie, (L/n)-Sama." I shook my head, "It was your son, not youโthe head of the Suzushima family. I have nothing to excuse." Getting up, I led them on the way out gently and as tenderly as I could while the Mrs. still gripped onto the letter securely.
Just as the doors closed did I hear the wailing of Mrs. Suzushima and the dropping of the porcelain vases. Not that they mattered anywayโthey were just there for display.
Sighing, I turned around, only to gasp in shock as I dodged an attack from Haninozuka-Sama. Observing as he slowly took out his hand from inside the wall that was now broken, I gripped my hands behind my back, a strict expression on my face.
"I advise you to not damage the household of your host-"
"Damn you and your household! How dare you use my son in such a way! First, you get engaged to him, then break off the engagement in less than a week?! Are you even human?!" Not fazed from the burning stare I walked around him and sat back down on the chief seat, gesturing for him to do the same.
"I take orders from no one. Especially a low-life whore like you-"
Tapping my finger on the glossed table, I glared right back at him, both of us not backing away as a hushed war occurred. "I said. Take a seat." Heavy silence consumed the room as it smothered the butlers and maids that were inside, though neither of us cared. Though I burdened Bunny-kun, I can't allow anyone to disrespect me in my house. I don't think he realizes how feeble is a family truly is in similarity with mine.
Sustaining eye contact as he walked over to his seat, Haninozuka-sama scrapped the chair against the marble floor on purpose and sat down, more silence following.
"I think you realize that the arrangement for both of our houses to be tied together by engagement wasn't accurately made, Haninozuka-sama?" I questioned, probing my cheek with my fisted hand. Haninozuka-Sama tsked, "So what? You think that I'll allow you to proceed to harm my son-"
"What will you do then? Drop him out of Ouran Academy? Last time I checked, I think you couldn't do anything to me physically and financially now can you, Haninozuka-sama?" I smirked, my eyes surely glowing as I could see veins popping out of his exposed throat.
"Of course not." The man answered, his later threat nothing but just that; a threat. Hollow and without meaning. "So I suppose you can call that a foolish engagement. Both your son and I committed the wrong choice, so what? The damage won't do anything to either you or my family, so I suspect that it's all we have to talk about, now is it, Haninozuka-sama?" Nodding his head slowly Haninozuka-sama got up and stormed out of the roomโbut not before throwing a vase in my direction which I thankfully escaped.
Hearing the door close with a 'bang', I sighed, drained from the number of stress that the two angered and distressed parents have given me.
'I think a nice, warm rose bath can help soothe my nerves-'
"(L/n)-dono, a call from the Hitachiin twins." Hearing this, I groaned in despair, though still lifted my hand to take away the phone from him. Lifting it to my ear, I let out my last sigh. "What do ya want-"
"(Y/n)! Why the hell did ya skip school and why didn't you tell us?!"

"So, after a twenty-minute meeting with both of Toru-kun's parents and Bunny-kun's father, I can safely say that I am now fiancee-free." I concluded the report of my meeting after a few minutes. Both Hikaru and Kaoru seemed to hum in understanding.
"I see... poor you. You're the only one that I know who is in charge of their family matters." Kaoru stated in a disheartened tone, a clang sounding in the other line faintly. "So what you're saying isโis that you will not be at school for a solid two days?" This time it was Hikaru asking, and I have to agree; this was the question that I was dreading the most.
I nodded solemnly. "Indeed. I've had too many life problems that it blinded me from financial matters, which, as you probably already know, isn't a good thing." Reclining my body to face the ceiling on the office chair, I glanced over at the bowing maids and motioned them over.
"News of me becoming a bachelor has passed the Prince of Lordin's ears and has requested my presence in his upcoming ball. So, to be more precise about this: I'm fucked." With a huff, I spun my chair around, not caring if I got dizzy or not.
"You know, I believe your father-"
"My 'father' will not partake in any affair that belongs to the (L/n) family, Kaoru; I thought that was obvious from the start." Hearing a defeated sigh from the other line, I scorned softly. They weren't that easy to sway, so something was up.
"(Y/n)!" Flinching in surprise at hearing Tamaki-sempai's voice, I glanced over at the morning sun. "Yes, boss?"
"We're coming with you to this... um... ball!"
I knew someone was listening.
